Description

As I state in my philosophy statement, "I find that policies such as information ownership, disclosure, storage, confidentiality, and privacy, as well as intellectual property (copyright and copyright limits) and information integrity, are important. I am also interested in working with societal barriers to information access: economic, cultural, generational, and educational." In my "Professional Development and Lifelong Learning project, I focus on researching portions of, "the tenure and promotion requirements at two research institutions: The University of Illinois and The University of Buffalo," to see how they can be improved.

Analysis

For my philosophy statement, my short and long-term plans were, "The requirements and skills I already possess that will be applicable in an entry-level academic library position. These would be "research and an ethical foundation." My research skills, concerned with using a library, are finding peer-reviewed books, articles, and journals, and using databases. I also have the skill of using office applications to create documents and presentations. My ethical foundation is that a library should be democratic, as in hiring librarians, and that when it comes to artificial intelligence, it should be used, but not at the expense of jobs that can be done by humans in a library.

For the "Professional Development and Lifelong Learning Personal Development Plan," I focused on how tenure is granted at two universities so that I may one day, If I earn a PhD, be granted tenure. At the University of Illinois, "Candidates for promotion to (Professor) shall demonstrate promise fulfilled, including excellence in librarianship through outstanding performance over a sustained period of time; a sustained record of research and publication demonstrating a major impact in the field." At the University of Buffalo, I found that, "journal articles are part of the evidence needed for scholarship, and that (these resources can involve research and creative efforts comparable to that required for articles in refereed journals)."

Reflection

As I state in my philosophy statement, "I find that policies such as information ownership, disclosure, storage, confidentiality, and privacy, as well as intellectual property (copyright and copyright limits) and information integrity," are important. I am also
interested in working with societal barriers to information access: "economic, cultural, generational, and educational." Also in my philosophy statement, I say that, "the requirements and skills I already possess that will be applicable in an entry-level academic library position and would be research and an ethical foundation. My research skills concerning using a library are finding peer-reviewed books, articles, and journals, and using databases. In my future practice, I will use the before-mentioned skills of using office applications to create documents and presentations.

I will also focus on, according to "professional development and lifelong learning," how I will, after gaining a PhD, find tenure at a University.
